Landscape Design

When it comes to design, we think beyond the physical materials and focus on creating spaces and experiences with a consistent dialogue between you, your home, and your environment.

From full site plans to small planting plans, we listen to you and transform your wish list into a comprehensive and dynamic plan. We design all of the following, in addition to plantings- while addressing functional issues such as grading and drainage.  Please click on any of the features below to contact us.

Our landscape designer, Jennifer Hoxsie APLD, is a degreed horticulturalist from the University of Illinois and a certified professional landscape designer through the Association of Professional Landscape Designers. She has a unique spatial awareness that combines elements of environmental psychology, architecture, and landscape design. Jennifer’s designs translate into imaginative, comfortable, and sustainable living spaces that integrate layered, sequenced, and framed plantings and views that are a joy to experience throughout the seasons.

Jennifer was also featured as the Association of Professional Landscape Designer’s September 2010 Landscape Designer of the Month.  To view the feature please visit https://www.apld.org/?p=jennifer-hoxsie

Our Design Process

We start our design relationship with an informal design consultation. We encourage you to walk us around your site and share with us your site’s assets, challenges, and your vision of what you would like to achieve. Based on what we hear, we direct you through the development of a site plan or a planting plan.

Once plans are complete, our designer partners with our skillful installation team throughout the completion of the project. Our unique perspective is that design is an ongoing process. Thus to ensure that all of the design intentions come to life in every detail, our designer continues to communicate directly with you, visit the site regularly, and be accountable for ongoing design decisions.

Site Plan

During the design consultation, if your vision extends beyond plantings we direct you through developing a site plan. Site plan development is an exciting collaborative process where we listen to your wishes, take inspiration from your home’s architecture, evaluate your site’s assets and challenges, brainstorm rough concepts, choose a style direction, research solutions to functional issues, address budgetary considerations, and ultimately combine all of these elements with our professional insight and experience to create a comprehensive and dynamic plan for the entire site or project area that can be phased in over time. A site plan may include the design of driveways, entry piers, walks, stoops, patios, sport courts, seat walls, retaining walls, outdoor fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, decks, pergolas, arbors, trellises, fencing, fountains, ponds, irrigation, lighting, and plantings while addressing functional issues such as grading and drainage.

Planting Plan

If we are able to achieve your vision by working with existing driveways, walks, etc., we direct you through developing a planting plan. A planting plan involves the same collaborative process as a site plan, but focuses on using planting design to enhance the existing structures of the site. Even within planting design great transformations can be made within spaces by re-contouring bedlines to add depth and dimension to spaces, relocating existing plant material, adding structure with hedges and trees, framing and redirecting views, layering plant material, and sequencing plantings for year round interest.
